Allied is a competent WWII romantic thriller that hits familiar beats without distinguishing itself. The Casablanca-inspired setup in North Africa is atmospheric but the screenplay leans heavily on genre conventions. Pitt and Cotillard deliver solid if unspectacular performances — chemistry is present but uneven. Zemeckis brings his usual polish to the visuals with glossy period recreation, though nothing cinematically distinctive. The spy-twist premise echoes countless wartime dramas, making Novelty its weakest point. The ending is emotionally affecting but telegraphed well in advance.
